Dirtybird Player Vol. 2
Part two of the massive dirtybird players compilation is here. This time we feature some of the labels biggest Europe based acts Eats Everything & Catz n Dogz along with some European newcomers GoldFFInch, Friend Within & 6 Stroke. In addition we still got that old school Cali crew repping with Leroy Peppers and Claude VonStroke as well as our newest addition Mark Starr from Florida.
This half of the comp goes all the way from booty bass to deep house to future dubstep and represents the various styles and directions of the label. Again, we like to keep the words short and sweet and let the music do the talking.
We hope you enjoy it.

Dirtybird Player
"dirtybird Players" is a showcase of all the key artists and upcoming talent on the label. This sampler is an up front taste of the full length compilation and world tour coming this Spring. "Don't Like To Do That" was an unmarked demo that came through to me and every time I dropped it at least two DJs came over to ask me what it was. It took me 3 weeks to figure out who actually made the track and finally we hunted down the awesome duo called Cause & Affect from Birmingham and snagged this unusually funky groove. Worthy's "Dip" I've been playing for 6 months to great success. This is one of those bass heavy dirtybird jams you can bet will get the asses moving every time. Worthy has been appearing on db for almost 8 years now and has developed his sound quite dramatically via his own label Anabatic. Lastly, the young up and comer Justin Jay makes his 2nd official appearance with "Altitude" a track championed by Justin Martin this year. This is a deep moody affair and a great prelude into Justin Jay's full Static EP due out this April. And take note, hes only 19 years old! (A very wise 19 I have to say).

Justin Martin
Justin Martin's ghetto garden has produced another hefty harvest: a second remix volume from his widely-acclaimed "Ghettos & Gardens" with refixes of all shapes and sizes from some of Justin's favorite producers and best mates. Claude VonStroke takes the vocals of the title track and crafts them into an acid bomb of nuclear proportions, while Eats Everything's Ruff Stuff reruff is a big, Bristolian bully: properly bass-heavy. Leroy Peppers and Shadow Child both bring a 90s DnB vibe to the table; Pepper's remix of Don't Go is crispy and featherlight, while Shadow Child blasts Riding Spaceships through a galaxy of space beats, breaks, and builds. A double-stack of Gurner goodness: Tanner Ross strips the croonin' tune down to a lonely snap and a synth, while Willis Haltom and LOPAZZ choose to give it a warehouse party treatment with synth stabs, Roland rumbles, and a hefty acid attitude. To round out the release, Kill Frenzy adds some of his signature twerked-out bass to Butterflies while Pezzner delivers a thumping, tribal beast of a Molokini remix, replete with cavernous layers of percussion and singing sirens.

French Fries
French Fries delivers two originals on the cutting edge of modern bass. "Space Alarm" is right up in your face but artfully holds back right when you think it will go over the top. The inside "Smoke Wine" is more in the vein of last years smash "Yo Vogue" yet more understated and deep which is rare for the genre. When I play these at the right time they always solicit an audible "ooooh" from the crowd at the drops. Remix #1 is by Justin Martin who really blows it up dirtybird style with almost a breakbeat old school electro beat. Remix #2 is by dirtybird newcomers GoldFFinch via Belgium who also deliver a really funk laden club version. Both remixes are ace and the full release brings a very fresh sound to the label.

Eats Everything
Eats Everything, the big lad from Bristol, delivers two smashers just as big as his lovable personality. I've already seen both sides of this record devastate all kinds of rooms from DC10 to fabric to Warehouse Project. This is the kind of rare release that has support from DJs across the board. "Vertigo" is a pure gold nugget of acid artistry and "Trubble" is the filthy cousin who didn't brush her teeth or change her pants for a week. If you've managed to catch Eats Everything live this year, you will have seen what all the fuss is about and if you were lucky enough to manage a chat with him, you will have seen why we all love this guy so much. It's not so often that a record comes from such a lovable source and I expect this one to set a mark as one of the strongest point in his career.
Enjoy,
VonStroke

Justin Martin
Fresh off the release of the critically-acclaimed Ghettos & Gardens album, dirtybird and Justin Martin are proud to present Ghettos & Gardens Remixes Vol. 1. Featuring remixes of the album's lead singles "Ghettos & Gardens", "Don't Go" as well as "The Gurner" feat. PillowTalk, "Molokini", and "Riding Spaceships". Justin has asked Dusky, Danny Daze, Bachelors Of Science as well as label mates Catz 'n Dogz, French Fries, and Ardalan to all contribute. Each remix is thoughtfully produced, dynamically diverting from the original production. To start things off, Dusky brings the house down with their version of "Don't Go" while Danny Daze twists the vocals of PillowTalk with deep chords and an acid bassline on "The Gurner". Catz 'n Dogz do what they do best providing "Butterflies" with blissful dance floor punch, French Fries drops the heavy bass in his "Molokini" remix and Ardalan's remix of "Riding Spaceships" drops liquid in your ear drums. Last but not least, the Bachelors Of Science give us their drum & bass interpretation of "Ghettos & Gardens" which is surely not to be missed. Stay tuned for Ghettos & Gardens Vol. 2 featuring remixes from ...?

Kill Frenzy
Kill Frenzy debuted on dirtybird with the label anthem of last year "Make that Booty Clap featuring DJ Funk". To have a track that gets played by everyone all the way from Soul Clap to Skrillex shows Kill Frenzy's ability to bridge the gap between genres, cliques and crews around the world. This new EP pushes even further into that original sound. To be able to combine footwork, breaks, techno & dubstep and make it all playable in house DJ sets is a big achievement and Kill Frenzy seems to have claimed this new genre all for himself. We have to give credit to co-producer of "Go To The Mo" dirtybird's long time friend Sacha Robotti working with KF on the A side, but there is no denying this new talent from Belgium and we are really excited to have Kill Frenzy be a part of dirtybird. It also makes me happy that after 8 years some of that San Francisco dirt is breaking through to places like Belgium other countries in Europe outside of the UK.

Tom Flynn
Believe it or not this is Tom Flynn's third EP on dirtybird and he has come a long way as an artist since his first record with us. I think this is Tom's most thoughtful work to date. "Be Yourself" is immaculate club music with great sounds and great arrangement. This track has done wonders for me in the club all summer, but the B side is one of the most surprising tracks of the year.
"With Flowers" starts out deep and unassuming, then slowly builds and builds and builds AND BUILDS into one of the most massive euphoric resolutions I have heard in awhile. It's absolute killer open air material and probably my favorite Tom Flynn track to date.

Dirty Bird BBQ Trax
Before dirtybird was a record label it started as a San Francisco barbecue party based on sunshine, great music and carne asada. Friends playing good music out in the park for anyone who would show up. In celebration of the energy and spirit of the BBQ party we bring you this 4 track release with that summery open air vibe.
Everyone on the EP is making their 2nd or 3rd appearance on the label. Los Angeles based Justin Jay returns with "Femme Fatale" a fantastic sounding 70s inspired funk-house jam. Nick Monaco also returns, continuing his quirky ideas with the thematic and amusing "Don't Hate, Create!". A1 Bassline is back with the ever smooth and melodic 808 boomer called "Daft". And lastly, we have the highly anticipated return of Shadow Child with "Comb Over" which he co-produced with long time friend of the label, James Talk.
We hope you enjoy and get to try these tracks somewhere outdoors this summer with some BBQ and beers.

dirtybird Summer EP
And we're off! Who has the lucky task of following up Justin Martin's epic Ghettos & Gardens album? It's a sampler called "dirtybird summer" celebrating the sounds and sunshine of this year's amazing summer season.
Track one of this diverse four parter is a melodic overture by the Munnibrotherz from South Africa who debuted on dirtybird last year with the hit record "Moon Chon Chayouh." Track two is a dirtybird virgin, Nick Olivetti. Some of you have probably heard me drop his track "Hectic Guitar" at some point on the road this year, it was a big part of my live sets. This new one "Jump Up" is just as deadly and even more focused on the super heavy grooves Nick is so good at producing.
Track three is a really fun db style party track by Genghis Clan. Its got the big build up and the fun vox samples but the drop is pure house music and pure summer groove. It really works, especially outdoors. Last but not least are my buddies from Bristol, Waifs & Strays who are also making a debut on dirtybird with "Lost In The Party." This is kind of like a nu-disco style track if the producers were from Bristol and grew up on filthy basslines and roast dinners. Its also got elements of Detroit techno. Simple and effective I like to say..
Enjoy,
VonStroke

Justin Martin

Limited Bundles available
Limited Gatefold Vinyl available
Justin Martin made the very first release on dirtybird records in 2005. Seven years later, he delivers his long awaited debut artist album with the very same smile and fun loving attitude he’s had since the beginning. "Ghettos & Gardens" is exactly as advertised - a tender and tough collection of songs that build you up with sweeping strings, then break you down with earth shattering basslines. It's sunsets vs. cyclones, roses vs. razors, and bunny rabbits vs. wolverines.
Maybe it's the streets of San Francisco that made his music this way - a place where you can see a beautiful woman and a crippled homeless addict on the same city block. Maybe it's the juxtaposition of the famous dirtybird Golden Gate park parties, where Justin's loving parents make tacos and chop fresh salsa while total freaks lose their minds in front of the massive sound system. Not a whole lot of producers are just as influenced by E40 as they are by LTJ Bukem, and even fewer of them played the jazz saxophone in high school.
Whatever is going on, most people would say that Justin is one of the most charismatic likable DJs to walk the earth. In this album Justin demonstrates his unique ability to blur the lines between musical genres, taking us through beautiful melodies, UK basslines, moody funk and devastating drops. You can hear the meticulous production techniques in every track - from the slow Hip-Hop style of Hood Rich to the heavy duty low-end of Molokini. The whole thing is fresh and uplifting like the smell of ozone after a lightning strike. Ghettos & Gardens sounds like nothing else out there – it could not have come from anyone but Justin Martin. Such originality is a formidable achievement, and adds to Justin’s reputation as one of the most talented and exciting electronic music producers of our time.
