Surkin
Surkin - USA (Album Teaser) by Marble Music
SURKIN - USA (Out November 7th)
Hi. We at Marble are proud to announce that we’ll be releasing the debut full length by Surkin, called USA on November 7th. Originally designed to be out on Institubes, we immediately thought of Marble as the perfect platform to release it after the demise of our former label. It’ll feature 16 tracks, with guest vocals by Detroit’s Ann Saunderson and Chicago’s Kevin Irving (the voice of house blueprint « Move Your Body » by Marshall Jefferson), and two collaborations with longtime friend and labelmate Bobmo, whom with Surkin works as High Powered Boys.
It’s a joyous, juvenile, body-moving record, based on the idea of a radio station called Fireworks FM, set up in Silver Springs. The whole vibe exhales a fantasized eighties soundscape, infused with dance subgenres from that era but dramatically edited by Surkin’s own imaginary memories. Club tracks galore, but also expect more melodic, emotional mid-tempo cuts, but definitely not in a filler way. Mastery all over the place, yet infused with a tremendous feeling of exuberance and freedom. Needless to say it’s an instant classic.

2. Lose Yourself (ft. Ann Saunderson)

Canblaster
(MRBL006) Canblaster - Totem by Marble Music
Like Myd, whose Octodip EP was Marble’s previous release, Cédric Steffens, aka Canblaster, is a French northern boy – Douai is the name if his hometown. He’s now based in Paris and works hard on both his solo work and the forthcoming debut album of his crew Club Cheval – other members being fellow Northerners Panteros666, Sam Tiba and Myd. It’s his third EP, and he also did a dozen remixes. He’s 21, with pretty serious skills, both technical and aesthetic. Marble is extremely proud to have the honor to release this luminous EP, blending positive, efficient techno with more nerdy but catchy IDM sensibilities.
Digi-spiritual vibes and highly kinetic 4/4 beats run «Air Totem», a positive, luminous, serene techno track, all punctuated with futurist R&B breakdowns reminiscent of early James Blake. Those lovely outré synth stabs are just going to make your soul melt. A variation on the same totemic field, « Stoned Totem » is a hyperrreal, 3D remake of the best feelings of early nineties trancey prog techno, complete with sweet, colorful analog splashes and a warm house bassline. A stunning, truly time-warping zone. Finally comes « Delphes », featuring Club Cheval member Sam Tiba, an exquisite deep techno number that explores a more subdued mood, throwing at you crucial, happy stabs and shiny shards of sound matter – it’s a crazy, lyrical work of free sound design right here.
