Para One feat. Jaw

Para One's new video "When the Night" pays homage to late night 'chat lines' and features motorbikes, whips, and bananas. And if that doesn't get your engine purring, also featured are sex icons of yesteryear Amy Lynn Baxter, Brandy Ledford, and Janine Lindemulder, of Blink-182 album art fame.

Matthias Zimmerman

After landing on the scene last year with his first Sound Pellegrino release “Isla Dub”, and exercising his unique combination of war drums, electromechanical symphonies and earth sounds on such highly respectable labels as Tigersushi and Discobelle, gaining the respect of peers such as Hudson Mohawke, Martyn, Laurent Garnier, Joakim, Modeselektor, Ivan Smagghe, Boys Noize, Breakbot and many more in the process, German maestro MATTHIAS ZIMMERMANN is back for the third time on his newly-permanent home Sound Pellegrino.
Inpired by the wonderfully grandiose garden situated on the left bank of Paris known as Jardin des Plantes, here is Matthias Zimmermann’s latest offering, the “BOTANICA DUB” EP.

Built for the dancefloor, bearing the specificities of a proper organic techno tool but not devoid of subtle grooves and details, “Paul” is quite unusually ‘tracky’ for a Matthias Zimmermann track. It is as club-friendly as it is mental and hypnotizing, its mid-tempo pulse radiating with magnetic sex appeal.

“Quincy” picks up where Matthias’s spielbergian weirdo-hit from last year “Luther” left off. Hysterical drums, crunched and de-pitched to abstraction, unravelling what happens to be chopped up bird sounds Matthias himself sampled during his latest trip to the aforementioned Jardin des Plantes (we believe he deserves some sort of French national distinction for doing this), resulting in a rare broken banger.beating at 114bpm around a fantastic climactic core.

“Vincente” is the hidden gem of the “Botanica Dub” EP. Relentless drums built around a reconstructed filtered tear-jerking rainbow r&b guitar solo which will turn your world into a black neon French movie romance where you’ll be spinning and whirling in slow motion while holding your lover’s arms until you both take off and reach the stars. A nice way to wrap up this dreamy EP, the new theme songs for life on the colourful archipelago situated inside composer Matthias Zimmermann’s head.

Sound Pellegrino Thermal Team

We, Sound Pellegrino bosses ORGASMIC and TEKI LATEX, otherwise known as the Thermal Team, return to the fusion of styles explored on previous subterranean hits such as "Bassface" and "Ice Palace" to bring you another slice of that dope unnamed hybrid of funk, dirty south bass and electronic rap "à la Française" with this new EP "ACTIVATE" / "I BE". As first heard on the "Modeselektion vol. 02" compilation released by the impeccable Modeselektor-ran imprint Monkeytown, "ACTIVATE" is a motivational dance number basically urging the listener to get this proverbial party started, whether it's an actual party or one happening in his brain via intoxication of his soul. It doesn't have to make much sense: this is how the best techno poetry in the World has always worked. The soundscape is energetic yet melodic and bursts of chipmunk soul punctuate a beat that channels the buzzing of a swarm of nano-robotic bugs. The always DJ-friendly THERMAL TEAM generously provides instrumental and acapella versions guaranteeing hours of fun for the whole family. "I BE" has been described by our close friends and collaborators as 'anthemic', although that's a quite pretentious thing to write in your own press sheet. Objectively the music displays a certain number of qualities that scream ANTHEM: the fact that Orgasmic and I are moving closer to rap than ever before on an SPTT track, the epic frenchness of those conquering synths, the fast flows and the phrase 'This is the Thermal Team definitely back to smack'. Classic French touch romanticism and Dipset-style musical overconfidence define this piece of modern slogan-based braggadocio turning trap on it's own head and bringing the crown of electronic rap back to Paris, France where it obviously belongs (smiley face). Again, instrumental and acapella versions are provided. Released by: Sound Pellegrino Release/catalogue number: SNP 034 Release date: Oct 1, 2012

Surkin & Todd Edward

Release date: August 27th on all music stores Preorder now on iTunes Already supported by A-Trak, Switch, Annie Mac, Rob Da Bank, Crookers, Joe Goddard, Sinden, Feadz, Untold, Martelo, Ben Westbeech, LOL Boys, TWR72, Strip Steve, Darabi, Jean Nipon, Nick Catchdubs, Louisahhhh, Glass Figure, DVA… + Radio support from ANNIE MAC (BBC Radio 1, UK), LAURA LEISHMAN (Le Mouv, FR) Sound Pellegrino’s Crossover Series, our special line of EPs dedicated to pairing producers from different scenes together on a musical project, has always been about highlighting bonds between styles that might not appear at first listen but that connect musical movements on the big web of the House Nation. For this third installment we asked ourselves what would be the common core that tied together our dear French touch (and its modern incarnations) with UK vibes of Garage-ian descent we’ve been obsessed with since the beginning of Sound Pellegrino. The answer lied in the depths of New Jersey, where house mastermind TODD EDWARDS invented his signature style of bouncing drums, uplifting harmonies and cut-up samples. A style that later gave birth to a plethora of Todd-inspired producers/ disciples across the world, notably in the UK in the late 1990s. But what sealed Todd’s status as a member of House royalty was also his collaboration with Daft Punk on the track “Face To Face” from their 2001 album ‘Discovery’. Todd is actually the lead singer on “Face To Face”, and he hadn’t been featured so prominently on a track since. In our camp, SURKIN was always the big Todd Edwards admirer, he already had the opportunity to get remixed by Todd on his “Next Of Kin” single but the creation of the Crossover Series motivated us to put them in a studio and see what came out of it, with the secret ambition to get Todd to sing again on a Surkin beat. We connected with the extremely lovable Todd in person in L.A. via our friend Mike B, then Surkin arranged a gig for him in Paris at one of his Marble nights, and next thing you know the two of them where in Surkin’s studio together working on tracks for a couple of days. At that time we could have never imagined the incredible strength and the overload of pure pop bliss that would eventually come out of that session. Not only did Todd pick up the mic again, but on “I WANT YOU BACK”, Surkin transformed himself into the ultimate Acid R&B producer and laced him with a future milestone. As expected, Todd Edwards’ vocals about lost love are imperial, touching, timeless, sad but at the same time motivational, as pure modern Soul should be. But let the sweaty decadent aura of basement dancefloors not be forgotten by this holy alliance! “THIS WAY” combines classic Todd Edwards joyful grainy production with Surkin’s straight-to-the-point repetitive efficiency, injecting slight doses of Techno masculinity in an otherwise bucolic, feminine, almost handbag- ish House number, creating a unique fusion of styles that will melt your little raver brain. “MIGHTY LOVE” channels the same kind of style fusion but this time it’s the French touch heritage that quietly takes over evoking hints of Cassius and Stardust at times, as well as a certain Roulé feel, but free from redundant cheesy French touch clichés. Definitely a possible evolution of late 90s french styles in an alternate future. —Teki Latex Released by: Sound Pellegrino Release/catalogue number: SNP 032 Release date: Aug 27, 2012

Matthias Zimmermann

The ever-talented Parisian creative collective Ill-Studio translate the Sound Pellegrino visual identity they defined in still form into a short video illustrating the label's next release from German newcomer MATTHIAS ZIMMERMANN.

Sampled video footage of semi-confidential scientific reports, counter-culture gatherings, audio research and pop flashes of our non-localizable collective youth are cropped, cut, chopped and edited in perfect sync with the beats, synths and string of the bewildering "Luther" single, and conjures fond memories of Plastic Dreams or classic Coldcut/Hexstatic videos, taking sampling culture back to its own playful roots.
